THE WARRIORS FALL IN A CLOSE MATCH AGAINST PACHUCA
The Guerreras fell by a score of 2-1 against Pachuca in a match corresponding to matchday 15 of the Clausura 2026 Tournament, played on Thursday night at Estadio Corona.
The Santos team showed a positive and proactive approach from the start of the match, creating several dangerous opportunities on the goal defended by Esthefanny Barreras.
The first clear opportunity for the verdiblancas came in the 17th minute, when Vivian Ikechukwu came close to opening the score with a rebound shot that hit the post.
It was in the 34th minute when the Guerreras took the lead. Sandra Nabweteme stole the ball in the offensive zone, drove towards the rival goal, and finished with a low cross shot to make it 1-0. The Ugandan forward thus scored her third goal of the tournament and her thirteenth as a Santos player.
In the second half, the team led by Jhonathan Lazcano maintained the same offensive momentum, seeking to extend the lead. Around the 60th minute, Nabweteme created another dangerous opportunity after a high-speed advance, though her shot was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.
Moments later, the Hidalgo team equalized the score through the recently substituted Charlyn Corral.
Despite the tie, the Guerreras did not lower their intensity and continued with an offensive mindset. However, in the final stretch of the match, Aline Gomes scored the goal that gave the visiting team the victory.
The starting lineup for Santos Laguna consisted of Kathya Mendoza; Anahí Gómez, Alexa Hernández, Karla Rodríguez, and Sasha Pickard; Yessenia Novella, Doménica Rodríguez, and Lia Romero; Samantha Calvillo, Sandra Nabweteme, and Vivian Ikechukwu.
The substitutions for the Santos team were Celeste Guevara for Lia Romero at halftime, Dania Padilla for Sandra Nabweteme in the 70th minute, Julia de Santiago for Doménica Rodríguez in the 88th minute, and Marianne Martínez for Yessenia Novella during stoppage time.
The Guerreras' next match will be this Sunday when they visit Atlas FC in Guadalajara, in a game corresponding to the penultimate date of the regular phase.
