Santos Laguna continues working with their sights set on the final stretch of the Apertura 2026 Tournament, where they will aim to secure their spot in the Liguilla. Ahead of this Friday's match against Atlante, Argentine midfielder Facundo Caseres spoke about the team's current form, the confidence the group has gained, and the importance of maintaining their momentum at this stage of the tournament.
Regarding their next opponent, the albiverde player commented that the team is already analyzing their characteristics but is primarily focused on strengthening their own strengths to achieve a positive result:
“Just like in previous weeks, we are analyzing the opponent. We know that Atlante is a tough team, but we have our tools, and we will look to take advantage of them to play a good match and secure the three points.”
As for his personal performance, Caseres shared that he has been feeling increasingly comfortable within the team and highlighted the confidence he has found in his teammates, which has also allowed him to showcase his skills on the field:
“I’ve been feeling good in these last few matches. The team helps me a lot and gives me confidence. I think we’ve improved and are at a great level, which also allows individual players to stand out. I’m happy with the moment we’re experiencing.”
With the possibility of securing their spot in the Liguilla, the midfielder stated that the group is clear that the most important thing is to focus on what is within their control, without being distracted by what happens in other matches:
“We focus on our work and our match. We’re not paying attention to the standings or the results of other teams. We know it depends on us, but that starts with our daily work, with quality training sessions, and being well-prepared for each match. We will give everything to achieve our goal and ensure that the fans have the peace of mind that we will give one hundred percent.”
In this regard, he considered that having their qualification in their own hands is something the team has earned through their work and should approach with confidence rather than additional pressure:
“Relying on ourselves is always good, but we don’t see it as pressure. We’ve earned this right, and we’re giving everything to secure qualification.”
Caseres also recalled how he found the team upon his arrival at Santos Laguna and highlighted the group’s evolution throughout the tournament, especially in terms of confidence and energy:
“I arrived when the team started winning, and, thank God, I didn’t experience much of what had happened before. I can speak about what I’ve seen since my arrival, in the week leading up to the match against Juárez. The team was responding well, and I could see the energy that was there. In fact, during my presentation, I mentioned that I believed Santos was going through a rough patch that would end sooner or later. Now we are enjoying this moment.”
Finally, the midfielder emphasized the support of the Guerrera Fanbase as an important factor in the team’s resurgence and expressed his desire to have their presence in the upcoming match in Mexico City.
“It’s very important for us. There were home games where the fans were fundamental, especially when we started losing and managed to come back, or when we needed that extra energy to hold onto the result. If they can join us in Mexico City now, it would be spectacular. I think they see themselves reflected in us and recognize the effort we’re making. It would be wonderful to give them some joy.”
