After concluding their preseason stage in the United States, the Santos Laguna First Team resumed training this Thursday at Territorio Santos Modelo, continuing their preparations for the Apertura 2026 Tournament and the 2026 Leagues Cup.
Following an intense training phase in Baltimore, Maryland, which took place from June 19 to 30 and included eight training sessions and two preparation matches against Annapolis Blues FC and NY Cosmos, the verdiblanco squad returned to their headquarters to continue strengthening their physical, technical, and tactical aspects under the guidance of Renato Paiva.
The main highlight of the day was the addition of Mauricio Cuevas to training with his new teammates. The full-back joined the First Team's activities, thus beginning his adaptation process with the Warriors.
The 23-year-old footballer joins Santos Laguna after developing his career in American and European soccer. Trained at the LA Galaxy Academy, he also played for Club NXT, a subsidiary of Club Brugge in Belgium, before returning to the Los Angeles organization to join the LA Galaxy squad in Major League Soccer.
The new Warrior has represented the United States in various youth categories. As part of this process, he won the Concacaf U-20 Championship in 2022 and participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2023.
The work schedule will continue this Friday with a double training session, while on Saturday the team will train in a morning session.
Before the start of the Apertura 2026 activity, the Warriors will play one last international preparation match, hosting América de Cali next Thursday, July 9, at Estadio Corona. The historic Colombian team will provide an important test to fine-tune details ahead of the season's start. Tickets for this match will be available at very affordable prices for fans.
Santos Laguna faces the final stretch of their preparations with their sights set on the start of the Apertura 2026 Tournament, in which they will debut on July 18 against Rayados de Monterrey at Estadio BBVA.
