•    During the visit, they interacted with girls, boys, and young people, as well as learned a bit more about Mexican Sign Language.

As part of the activities of Warriors of the Heart, Santos Laguna's social responsibility program, football players from the Male and Female First Teams visited the facilities of the Lagunero Institute of Hearing and Language (ILAL).

On this occasion, Diego González, Eduardo Aguirre, Ramiro Sordo, Esteban Lozano, and Kevin Picón from the male team, as well as Tabatha Rivas, Gineva López, Lia Romero, Yessenia Novella, Nayeli Díaz, and Sandra Nabweteme from the female team, had the opportunity to learn about the work carried out at the Institute and share a special moment with the girls, boys, and young people who are part of it.

In addition to touring the facilities and interacting with its members, the football players had their first introduction to Mexican Sign Language, an experience that allowed them to learn something new and discover other ways of communicating.

For Diego González, this visit was an opportunity to share with the children and also gain a learning experience:

“We are thrilled to be here, spending time with the children and learning Mexican Sign Language, because for us, it is a new language. Learning about these kinds of topics is very interesting,” shared the Paraguayan football player.

Diego also highlighted the importance of Santos Laguna promoting these kinds of activities, where team members can directly engage with different communities.

“What the Club does in terms of social initiatives is very interesting, and honestly, we are very happy to help in this area,” he added.

For her part, Lia Romero emphasized how meaningful it is to learn about other realities, gain knowledge from them, and find new ways to be empathetic.

“Honestly, it’s very beautiful to participate in this. Truly, getting to know this side of deaf people is something very special, understanding and learning how to be more empathetic, and realizing that we can achieve anything and fight for our dreams, no matter who we are,” commented the football player.

Lia also highlighted that these experiences are part of what makes Santos Laguna special, as it provides its players with the opportunity to contribute beyond the field:

“I really think this is the beauty of Santos, that they involve us in all these social events to truly be very empathetic and understand that giving a little bit of our effort helps motivate these people to keep moving forward.”
