Santos Laguna opens new academy in Washington State

Santos Laguna has officially opened an academy in Yakima, WA, in line with the club’s ambition to expand its network of academies in the United States.

The Santos-Sozo academy is located in the Sozo Sport Complex in Central Washington and will cater to girls and boys between five and 17 years old. The academy currently has 100 young players enrolled, but will have capacity for 400 moving forward.

The academy is the first to be officially inaugurated in the United States, although another three are up and running. Santos Laguna also runs 35 academies within Mexico.

Youngsters at the Santos-Sozo academy will be coached using the same methodology employed at six-time Liga MX champion Santos Laguna, inculcating the players in the institution’s philosophy, including Ganar Siriviendo (To Win and to Serve), which is designed to contribute to the local community and is a firm part of the club's DNA.

The official opening ceremony took place earlier this week in front of 150 people, including Santos Laguna legends Juan Pablo “Chato” Rodríguez and Rafael Figueroa.

The move to open more academies in the United States is part of the continued internationalization of the club.
