Club Santos U-17's played to a 4-1 win over Chiapas at Territorio Santos Modelo Wednesday afternoon, only days after taking the Championship in their group at Dallas Cup.
The Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup is an annual international tournament is held in Dallas, Texas and features teams from the USA, Mexico, South America, and overseas in Europe and Asia. It draws over 100,000 spectators over five days and sees coverage on major networks such as ESPN and FOX. Santos 17's shut out every single one of their opponents in the group stage, the semi finals, and played to a 1-0 win in the U17 Supergroup final against rivals Monterrey, scoring 13 goals in the process. Uriel Antuna nabbed four goals over the course of five games, while Gerardo Arteaga and Eduardo Aguirre each scored three, Jesus Ocejo socred two, and the 13th goal was credited to their opponents Ohio Premier in the semifinal as an own goal.
Aguirre, along with teammate Kevin Lara - who did not see much time due to injury - have recently reported to camp with the U17 Mexico national team where they will prepare for the upcoming U17 World Cup.
On Wednesday afternoon, it was back to business as usual as the U17's as they faced Chiapas in week 13 of league play, with forward Ronaldo Cisneros having involvement in every single goal scored: He nabbed the first after three minutes into the first half, assisted the second before halftime, and bagged two more in the second half to help Santos finish with a 4-1 victory. Antuna, the leading scorer in Dallas Cup, scored the second goal for Santos off a pass from Cisneros into the area.
The win puts them temporarily in 7th place with 24 points and two games to make up after participating in Via Reggio cup in February. They will play their make-up game against Chivas at TSM on April 29, and travel to Morelia during the first week of May to make up their game against Monarcas. The remaining games will align according to the rest of the LigaMX schedule for the 2015 Clausura.
