In celebration of Santos Laguna's 35th anniversary, los Guerreros gifted their fans a 3-0 victory over Leon at Estadio Corona on Sunday afternoon, with goals by Jonathan Rodriguez and Julio Furch. Rodriguez opened scoring for the hosts off a goalkeeper error just after 30 minutes, Furch doubled the lead 20 minutes into the second half, and later sealed the 3-0 just before the final whistle off a penalty.

With his two goals, the Argentine forward overtakes first place in the goal scoring table with seven in nine games, also claiming the lead in assists with four. Rodriguez also finds himself in the top of the goal scoring table with five goals.

The opening 30 minutes saw a lot of back and forth between both sides with no clear cut chances until the 32nd minute, when Ecuadorian forward Ayrton Preciado sent a shot from distance into the arms of Rodolfo Cota. Two minutes later, Mauro Boselli attempted a header off a cross that sailed over the crossbar.

In the 35th minute, an error by Cota fell directly to the feet of Preciado, who initated a play for Rodriguez who was in the area. With a shuffle of his feet, he controlled the ball to maneuver his way around two defenders and shot from the center of the area, through Cota's legs and into the back of the net for the opening goal.

Los Guerreros maintained their 1-0 lead into the second half looking for more opportunities on goal. In the 53rd minute, Jesus Isijara's sot was denied by Cota after a cross into the area by Brian Lozano on a corner kick.

Ten minutes later, Furch doubled the lead from the center of the area after a collective team performance around the box. Getting a foot on the ball, he turned and sent a left-footed shot past Cota for the 2-0.

Hungry for more, Rodriguez attempted a chilena from the right side of the 18 yard box in the 77th minute, but his shot bounced wide of the far post.

In the 85th minute, referee Fernando Guerrero whistled for a penalty in favor of Santos, which Furch converted from the spot for the eventual game winner.

With the result, Santos claimed its 350th victory on its 35th anniversary, and head coach Salvador Reyes' Guerreros rise in the table to fourth place with 17 points. They remain unbeaten at Estadio Corona during the 2018 Apertura.

Los Guerreros will host Veracruz on Sunday, September 23rd at 6:00 pm for round 10 of league play, before setting off for Aguascalientes where they'll face Necaxa.
