As los Guerreros look to keep their title hopes alive, head coach Robert Dante Siboldi says Sunday's quarterfinal second leg is the defining match of the tournament.
Santos fell 2-0 to Tigres in Estadio Universitario on Thursday night in the first leg, but all hopes lie in los Guerreros turning things around and playing a to solid victory in front of a home crowd.
To do that, Siboldi said his team have to have their minds sharp with the mentality of securing the win.
"We have to demonstrate security, be patient and possess, circulate the ball," he said. "We have to be intelligent because right now the score is in favor of Tigres with the 2-0. It's a team with fast players who can dismantle our balance if we're not careful, so we have to be perfect defensively so as to not create opportunities for them to score, and take advantage of our chances when we have them."
A win Sunday night and los Guerreros will play Club America in the semifinal, who defeated Pumas in their quarterfinal series.
"Sunday's game is the match of the tournament. Either we continue or we finish. We're about to face a great rival again and an adverse result of two goals, so we'll see what we're made of when it comes to both character and football. We know we can win by playing well and if we are ready to move forward we will find out tomorrow. "
