Head coach Robert Dante Siboldi maintains that his team remains strong and unified despite their 2-0 loss in Toluca on Sunday to conclude week eight in league play.
Los Guerreros remain in second place with 14 points, and have arrived at a record of 4-2-2 after eight weeks of league play, remaining undefeated at Estadio Corona where they’ve netted 10 goals in four league games.
After the match against Toluca, Siboldi offered his thoughts on the state of the team as it approaches the halfway mark of the 2018 Clausura.
“It wasnt the same game we played on Wednesday (against Leon),” he said, “but that's football and we're going to keep working and looking forward.”
He made reference to the profound analysis the club takes before and after each game, thanks in part to its Sports Intelligence department – a key component that has helped los Guerreros achieve and maintain their strength in the tournament.
“Without a doubt, even when we win, we make a deep analysis,” he added. “Just because we win a game doesn't mean that we're totally doing things well. Also when we lose, it's the same. There's always something to learn from and improve.”
He noted that despite the team’s confident 5-1 win over Leon earlier in the week, the team is taking the loss to Toluca as an important lesson and way to measure how to approach the second half of the tournament to ensure that they finish at the top and reach the Liguilla to fight for another title.
“This serves as a good parameter to know where we are and where we want to go, to take decisions on where we're going and where we want to arrive. We're still second in the table and there's still a way to go in the tournament, so we're working to prepare in the best way. This week gives us time to prepare for Cruz Azul.”
The team will resume training throughout the week at Territorio Santos Modelo, and will host Cruz Azul on Sunday, February 25th at 6:00 p.m.
Siboldi and Sporting Vice President Jose Riestra will be featured as special guests on local program Somos Santos TV Monday night at 8:00 p.m., and will discuss all things relevant to the team during the tournament. The hour and a half program can be seen from the USA via the club’s YouTube channel. Fans and media can also follow through the club’s English-language twitter account @ClubSantosEn.
