Los Guerreros fell 2-0 to Toluca to close their participation in week 8 of Liga MX play.
Djaniny had his best chance of the first half in the fifth minute when he teamed up on a play with Julio Furch. He entered the area and on the run of play sent a grounded ball toward the goal, but the ball deflected off the leg of Toluca goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera.
Shortly there after, Toluca were on the attack and Jonathan Orozco made his first of three spectacular saves of the afternoon, denying an opportunity to his right.
In the 15th minute, Toluca opened scoring when Rubens Sambueza sent a free kick into the area. Fernando Uribe took advantage of his position in the center as the ball sailed into the box and he headed it into the back of the net.
Orozco saved what would have been Toluca's second goal in the 23rd minute, when the Red Devils attempted a shot from an angle inside the area off a free kick. The 'keeper's sharp reflexes were on point, as he leaped up to swat the threat up and over the top corner to prevent the ball from going into the back of the net at the far post.
In the 29th minute, Toluca took the ball downfield on a counter attack and Uribe sent a pass into the center. Luis Quiñones took a powerful shot but Orozco came up big and came out to make the save.
Five minutes into the second half, Uribe scored Toluca's second off another header in the box.
Lozano responded with two chances in rapid succession, but both attempts were denied by Talavera.
Robert Dante Siboldi made three changes after halftime. Jesus Isijara came off for Jonathan Rodriguez at the half, and Javier Cortés and Cris Martinez replaced Osvaldo Martínez and Brian Lozano later into the second.
Los Guerreros put up a good fight and worked cohesively to attempt to at least cut the lead in half, but they were unable to find a goal and despite three extra minutes awarded by the referee, the game ended with los Guerreros falling 2-0.
The team will return to training Tuesday morning to prepare for Cruz Azul on Sunday.
