Activities with fans and contests to win tickets will be announced a later date.
McAllen is located at the southern tip of Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, five miles from the U.S.-Mexico border and within close proximity to Reynosa, Taumaulipas. With the trip only six weeks away, players are already feeling the excitement of returning stateside.
“It’s important that we make these trips and get closer to the fans who always support us, and show their love for these colors regardless of the fact that they can’t see us so often in person,” said team captain Carlos Izquierdoz.
One of Club Santos’ newest additions, Uruguayan central defender Gerardo Alcoba, is looking forward to getting to know the team’s fan base in the United States after his two years of traveling for interntional friendlies with his former club Pumas.
“I hope to soon have the chance to go back (to the USA), this time with Santos and get to know all our fans in the United States. All my teammates from Pumas and now here (with Santos) - Mexicans and foreigners - tell me it's always a great experience to play there.”
Alcoba, who has worn the captain’s armband for los Guerreros in Copa MX play, says the fan support in the USA is essential to keeping the team’s motivation high.
Having seen the large amount of support by Santos fans in past games, he said:
“We hope they keep coming out to support. It will always be important for us to see them welcome us at the hotel and feel the ambiance they bring in the stadiums and training sessions. The opportunity to see one another when the team travels has a lot of value and I hope to experience it soon.”
As part of its philosophy, Santos Laguna works to serve communities everywhere it travels and aside from organizing activities to unite with its fans, since 2015, los Guerreros have held 18 social activities for underpriviliged communities in the United States, several of which have been held in conjuntion with United Way.
In 2017, Santos Laguna formed an official partnership with United Way, continuing in its forward-thinking philosophy by becoming the first Mexican club to form a partnership with a global non-profit organization. Santos firmly believes in uniting communities through public service in accordance with its motto “Ganar Sirviendo,” or Winning by Serving is the Only Option. During every visit, Los Guerreros look for every opportunity to include their fans in these social activities to encourage the act of public service among followers.
Fans and followers can find more information in coming weeks via Santos Laguna’s social media channels, where it will announce plans for such social activities and special contests ahead of the game.
