Los Guerreros and Las Aguilas kicked off Saturday night's late slot in Liga MX for week 15, concluding the first half 2-1 in favor of Club America.
The hosts took the lead in the 7th minute via a penalty awarded for a foul, which the ref called after Nestor Araujo made contact outside of the area, but his subsequent touch caused a player to go down inside. Silvio Romero converted from the spot to take an early lead.
Djaniny Tavares and Jonathan Rodriguez started up top in Chepo de la Torre's starting eleven, and were both active up top, with two of Rodriguez's shots saved by America goalkeeper Moises Muñoz.
Los Guerreros equalized in the 32 minute when Gael Sandoval sent a free kick into the area and Djaniny, who was placed in the center close and to the left of Muñoz, sent a header into the back of the net.
Rodriguez and Jose Javier Abella took opportunities on goal from distance in following minutes but Rodriguez's shot was denied by Muñoz and Abella's shot sailed into the stands.
Las Aguilas pulled ahead in the 40 minute when Michael Arroyo took a ball from midfield down the left and beat two defenders and Agustin Marchesin, sending his angled shot past Jesus Molina in the center and into the back of the net.
